About the Journal

Focus and Scope

The Southwestern Geographer is SWAAG's peer-reviewed journal.  The journal welcomes research papers on any topic written by geographers who reside in the states that comprise SWAAG (Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, Oklahoma, and Texas), submissions by scholars residing elsewhere on any topic that pertains to the geography of the southwestern United States or northern Mexico, or research that has been presented at scholarly conferences within our region. Graduate students are strongly encouraged to submit their work.

Peer Review Process

The Southwestern Geographer is a peer-reviewed journal.   Submissions to the journal will be double-blind reviewed by at least two expert scholars.  Reviewers, once they have accepted the task of reviewing a manuscript will typically have one month to return their review to the editors.  Normally, manuscript reviews and decision should be returned to the authors within approximately 6 to 8 weeks of submission.  Accepted manuscripts will be published as soon as their final layout has been completed.  Volumes will remain open throughout the calendar year and will be expanded upon publication of each paper.

Publication Frequency

The Southwestern Geographer publishes on a continuous, rolling basis.  As articles are accepted and readied for publication, they will be added to the current volume.  They will be regarded as published once they appear on-line.  Volumes will be open on an annual basis (January 1 to December 31).  With the publication of the 2013 volume, printed versions of this journal will no longer be available.  The journal will, henceforth, be a digital-only, e-journal.

Open Access Policy

This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
